A Pandemic Response

I just read an article in the Washington Post which I would offer as assistance in the midst of the pandemic.  Here is the link:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/wellness/cry-stress-pandemic-advice-coping/2021/01/22/d508f86c-575a-11eb-a817-e5e7f8a406d6_story.html

A warning: the article is about crying. So, I can probably rule out approximately one half of all potential readers – – the men! Our culture still insists that men should not cry. Men are supposed to be strong and many people translate tears as weakness.  I don’t agree.

The article is very well written by a woman whose writing suggests she may be writing it for women. I am hopeful that men as well as women will read the article.

An admission: I’ve cried while working in the grief and loss field. That was an occupational “hazard.” I believe that crying is an effective way of mourning losses, especially death losses. The pandemic thrusts us into having to deal with many losses and mourning well helps us live well.

A promotion: I will offer more thoughts on the topic of mourning in the time ahead.  I trust the article may be helpful.
